Origins of the Fractal Layers

The Fractal Bestiary: A Veil-Strider's Manifest

An Introduction by the Author If you are reading these pages, you have stumbled upon the Fractal Bestiary—a record of a universe that defies comprehension. I am an adventurer cataloging a world filled with unique, mind-boggling monsters and otherworldly habitats. I do not use modern devices to capture what I see; the images in this digital archive are highly detailed, magically imprinted ink and watercolor illustrations created using an "Enchanted Scrivener's Kit".

My field notes chronicle an ongoing journey. Be warned: time does not flow linearly here. These entries can be separated by hours, days, or even millennia as I track phenomena across impossible realities.

To understand the creatures within these pages, you must first unlearn the physical laws of your home world and understand the fundamental truths of this one.

The Hum (Vibrational Frequencies)

To avoid the archaic and overused Terran concepts of "magic," "mana," or "aether," you must understand that this world's energy is based entirely on Vibrational Frequencies.

  • The Foundation of Reality: Everything in this universe - gravity, time, matter - emits a specific frequency.
  • Biological Manipulation: The beasts here do not "cast spells". Everything emits a specific frequency, and creatures possess biological organs to manipulate these frequencies to alter reality.
  • Defying Logic: This resonance is why some monsters defy logic or exist in habitats they shouldn't.

The Fractal Scales (Tier System)

You will notice that traditional "power levels" do not apply here. A creature's threat is not defined by its fangs or claws, but by its relationship with reality itself. Power is ranked from Fractal I to Fractal VII.

  • Measuring the Impossible: This scale measures how drastically a creature can bend the laws of physics, not just its physical strength.
  • Deceptive Appearances: A massive, apex predator might only be a Fractal II because it relies purely on physical strength and instinct. However, a tiny, seemingly harmless insect could be a Fractal VI because it uncontrollably fast-forwards time around it when threatened.

The Habitats

The world map is completely different, housing creatures in a variety of unique, mind-bending biomes. Ecosystems are defined by typical elements like water and magma, but also by time, gravity, and magic. The monsters range from cute to unimaginable, with varying intelligence, and some defy logic by existing in habitats where they simply shouldn't.

A Note on "Terran Analogues"

Because the phenomena I witness are often too alien to describe in standard terms, you will find recurring "Terran Analogues" throughout my notes. I use this mechanic to write brief notes comparing overly complex alien concepts to familiar Earth terms so that you, the reader, might grasp the true nature of what I am facing.
